Awesome applique by Kerry

I've done a few gorgeous applique quilts for Kerry.  This wonderful Tea Pot Quilt is another example of the awesome work Kerry does.  The quilting is a freehand swirl, just going around the applique designs.  Kerry will do some embellishing and a bit of custom quilting to define some of the beautiful appliques with her domestic machine.

If you're looking for an alternative to custom quilting, this just may be it. The cost is a bit more than freehand quilting as I have to maneuver around the appliques and a thread color change was required, but a lot less expensive than full custom quilting.

Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day to all my family, friends, customers and to the whole of Canada.  We in Alberta are in recovery mode after suffering the worst floods we've had in history.  My heart goes out to the many many people who have lost so much.  My prayers are that you will be able to put your hardships aside for one day to celebrate the wonderful country we live in.

A special thanks to all the volunteers out there -  helping those in need .

More quilts from Alexandra and her mom Beth

These 3 quilts are examples of a mother and daughter doing what we all love - quilting.  The first two are freehand swirl designs. The 3rd is lite custom with ruler work around the star and a few feathers in the corners (exactly what Beth requested).

More beautiful quilts by star quilter - "Susan"

I am in awe of the wonderful works friend/customer Susan brings into me on a regular basis for quilting.  Her work is always so accurate and amazingly spot on.  Definitely an inspiration for me to try a bit harder when piecing my own quilts. Lovely work Susan - I want to quilt like you when I grow up!  :0)

These two beauties are examples.  Freehand quilting was done on both of these.  The first was freehand bubbles and the second freehand daisy/swirls.

This first one - Susan called "Card Tricks".

This second one is "Pink/Yellow Stained Glass"

Fairy Block Quilt by Mom or Daughter

This lovely quilt was made by either Alexandra or Beth, her mother.  Alexandra brings in quilts for them both and I'll have to ensure I confirm who made which one.    Regardless isn't it a lovely cheery quilt and I'm sure some your person is going to be over the moon with it.

The quilting is all over freehand - daisies/hearts/swirls adding to the femininity of this quilt.

Birthday Quilt for Hubby - by Tanya

This wonderful quilt was made by Tanya for her hubby as a special birthday gift.  Tanya included an array of denim fabric from family members making this even more special.

The quilting is an all over double swirl with hubby's name thrown in here and there.  I was a bit nervous because of the thickness so changed to a larger need making the quilting a non issue.
Tutti variegated cotton thread was used and Tanya didn't want any batting at all.

"City Park" by Mary

I love these modern quilts that are coming into the studio - this one is called "City Park" and pieced by Mary for her son.  Lovely job Mary and I know your son will be very pleased with his new quilt.

I must admit though that I'm finding it a bit of a challenge to come up with cool freehand designs to compliment these modern quilts. I'll have to get my sketch pad out and try to come up with a few more designs.

The quilting on Mary's quilt is freehand spirals using a variegated thread Tutti by Wonderfil and Warm & Natural batting.

More Traditional Custom Quilting on Elizabeth's Irish Chain

Feathers, feathers and more feathers.  Love those feathers!  This is a lovely fairly traditional Irish Chain made by Elizabeth.

My friend Elizabeth comments quite regularly about my scrap bin and me using scraps in a lot of my quilts.  Hmm Elizabeth, I think you've got the scrap bug too (oops forgot to tell you it's contagious) ! LOL

The quilting on this beauty is full custom traditional quilting.  Freehand feathers and a lots of ruler work.  Invisifil thread was used and Hobbs 80/20 batting.
