Fun - Snowman Quilt - Custom Quilting

I had such a hoot quilting this fun quilt for my friend Jane.  Jane is known for her love of snowmen and hopefully she'll like the quilting I did on her novelty applique quilt.

The quilting is full custom quilting using a variety of threads and Legacy 70/30 batting. The challenge is always trying to come up with something different for each block.  I must admit, I had a smile on my face all the time I was quilting this very cute applique quilt.

"Apple Blossom Quilt" - for a friend

Customer Vange made this adorable apple quilt for a friend of her's in Winnipeg. Vange did a great job incorporating this fun novelty fabric into a meaningful quilt for her friend. There is more of a story to this quilt but all I remember is Vange referring to an apple tree, apple pies and friendship.  I would love to see the friends face when Vange presents her with this lovely token of friendship.

The quilting is freehand soft swirls - but Vange and I decided we'd call them "apple blossoms". Well it's her quilt and my quilting which gives us the right to call it anything we want - right!

Of course the thread was 100% cotton (Tutti by Wonderfil) and the batting was Hobbs 80/20 giving the quilt a nice soft loft.

Batik Log Cabin Quilt by Rose

Rose is a lovely customer who does some awesome work.  This latest creation is a large 98" x 98" traditional log cabin quilt made out of the most scrumptious batiks.  A large number of batiks I might add, and Rose  did a great job coordinating them all.

The quilting is freehand leaf swirls using a beautiful variegated brown thread (Tutti by Wonderfil) and Hobbs Heirloom batting.

White Quilts - Current Trend

I read somewhere today that white quilts are a current trend.  I don't think my customer Claire meant this gorgeous beauty to be on trend when she made it - but hey Claire, the so called professionals say it is.  And I must note that it is nicer than any of the ones I saw in the article although I could just be a wee bit bias.

The quilting is a freehand soft swirl which I thought suited the feminine design of this quilt.

For a First Grandchild - Babies Love Color!

This adorable baby quilt was made by a new customer Janet for her upcoming first grandchild. I thought Janet did a great job choosing the colors and design as we all know that babies love bright colors. Those of you that know me know that any kids quilt with stripes or polka dots in it always has my thumbs up.

The quilting was my standard freehand bubbles, 100% cotton thread (Tutti by Wonderfil) and the batting if I remember correctly was W/Natural.  Darn, I forgot to take pix of the back - it was also so cute, colorful and perfect for this quilt.

Quilt for my son! by Maureen

This quilt was brought in by a new customer - Maureen.  Maureen mentioned that she had made this quilt for her teenage son a while back and was just getting around to having it quilted.  She noted that he would be thrilled as he did know Mom had been working on it and was patiently waiting for it's completion.

I did a freehand spikey swirl which lends to masculine quilts and think the design was perfect for this lovely quilt from a mother for her son.

Lovely Modern Grey Quilt by Lindsay

This is another gorgeous modern type quilt by customer Lindsay. Many different tones of grey fabric - I'm not sure if this was all from the same line but Lindsay coordinated them beautifully.  She wanted large freehand bubbles for the quilting. We used a light grey polyester thread by Madiera and the batting felt like a light blend which Lindsay supplied.

The backing is a white flannel with a few rows of pieced fabric left over from the top.

Beautiful Cheery Quilt with Freehand Flowers

This is a wonderful quilt that was done for Victoria Quilts.  I can't help but think that this quilt will put a smile on the persons face receiving it and hopefully help while they are going through their challenge.

Our Victoria Quilt chapter here in Calgary now has a facebook page - please check it out  https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/CalgaryBranchVQC

I just couldn't help but put some freehand flowers on this lovely cheery quilt.

Monkey Shines by Barb

I have to tell you, I am still smiling after quilting this adorable embroidered baby quilt by customer Barb.  Barb does a lot of wonderful quilts - some with embroidery and many without. This one is for someone very special and will be traveling all the way to the east very soon. Barb used some really cute flannel for the back adding to the coziness - which I forgot to take a photo of.

This embroidery pattern is called "Monkey Shines" by MM Embroidery Designs from www.oregonpatchworks.com

I quilted a freehand swirl design so I could maneuver around the embroidery adding another element of texture and not quilting over any of the cute little monkeys. The thread was a polyester cream color.
