This is another beautiful quilt pattern designed by McKenna Ryan.  Customer Linda did a great job putting this quilt together and I had a lot of fun quilting it for her. It will hang in Linda house as she mentioned she has a different wall quilt for each season.

"Lotus" by Mary W

Customer Mary W made this lovely quilt in a class offered by one of our LQS - Along Came Quilting.  Mary did mention it was Kim who taught the class and the class was called "Lotus".  I really love the fabric choices and the way they all go together - great job Mary.  Mary gives me free reign with the quilting so I jumped at the chance to do some fun quilting mainly in the borders.

Freehand quilting with a bit of attitude.  Hobbs 80/20 batting and 100% cotton variegated thread - Tutti by Wonderfil.

"Illusion" - Missouri Star Quilt Company

Customer Christmas quilt commitments are complete and I am bound and determine to get at least two of my own quilts out of the queue and completed.  This is number one.

I saw this free quilt pattern on Missouri Star Quilt Company and had to make it.  Of course if it's scrappy it keeps calling my name until I make it.  I finished it up a few months ago and knew I wanted to quilt it using the Baptist Fan quilting design.  The design does not lend itself to freehand quilting which is what I do exclusively, so I went looking on the internet to see what I could find.  Cindy Roth at Long Arm Quilting University did a tutorial on quilting the Baptist Fan using circle templates - I was intrigued.   I love using rulers and templates in my custom quilting so thought this would be perfect.  I really like the outcome as I've been a fan of the Baptist Fan design for a long long time.  Although I must say, it is very different quilting a whole quilt with templates as opposed to here and there when doing a custom quilt.  It was a bit time consuming but I think worth it.

Beautiful Applique Work by girlfriend Maxine

My girlfriend Max does some amazing cutting edge quilting.  She takes her quilts to another level and I sooo admire the work she does.  She then hands them over to me to do my stuff.

The quilting on this gorgeous piece is full hand guided custom work using some rulers and templates.  I included freehand feathers in the borders, a bit of curved cross hatching on some of the blocks to add interest and a lot of freehand fill.  My thread choice was a polyester thread  - a combination by Madeira and Wonderfil and Dream Puff batting to add definition.

"Love Quilt" - Pieced by friends Linda and Bev

What a wonderful quilt and such an appropriate name "Love Quilt".  Linda helped her friend Bev make this beauty for Bev's daughter Sarah.  Bev being a new quilter was very lucky to have her friend's help - a lot of little pieces in this quilt for a first time quilter.

Ladies, it turned out beautiful and will look amazing on Sarah's bed and I know she will love love love the bright colors.

Freehand funky heart quilting design, variegated purple 100% cotton thread - Tutti by Wonderfil, and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

2014 Friends Charity Quilt

We have now finished our 2014 charity quilt.  Many of you already know that my two friends Elizabeth, Betty and I make a charity quilt each year and have been doing so since 2003 when we all actually worked together for the same company in downtown Calgary.

Even though none of us now work together we have decided to still keep up our tradition of making a charity quilt.  Each year one of us chooses the quilt pattern and the charity the quilt will go to.  2014 was Elizabeth's turn.  She not only chose the pattern but designed it as well and called it "Chinook Stars". One talented lady our Elizabeth.

This first photo was taken just after we finished piecing it all together.  We each make a third of the blocks and then get together to assemble the quilt.

This photo was taken at our guild meeting which both Elizabeth and I belong.  As well the final photo shows how I did the quilting.  We're all very happy with the way it turned out and have no doubt someone is going to absolutely love it.
