Stephanie piecing for Victoria Quilts

This is another example of the lovely quilts that are being made for a wonderful organization - Victoria Quilts.  We make quilts for people facing the challenge of dealing with cancer.  These quilts are just perfect for taking to treatment or just cuddling under.

Stephanie, a lovely young quilter who has come through the studio was pleased to take a few kits home and put them together for this great cause.  Thank you Stephanie - you are amazing.

If you like Stephanie would like to piece a quilt top for Victoria Quilts - yes, you just have to do the piecing, we'll look after the rest.  Unless you're a long arm quilter or like to quilt on your domestic machine and would like to get involved in the quilting of these tops, we definitely can use your help .

I have kits available here at the studio and you're welcome to pop in and pick them up - just please call first.

Bertie's Winter - Wool Applique from "Out of Hand"

Isn't this the cutest wall quilt ever? The pattern is called "Bertie's Winter" by Bonnie Sullivan.

Anyone thinking of taking up wool applique or have room for another project must get these kits (4 in all).  Dierde from"Out of Hand", a very unique quilt/needle craft store here in Calgary made this sweet wall quilt as a sample for a block of the month she held a while back.  Dierdre did mention that she still has a few kits left which include the hand dyed wool, all the buttons, pattern and the fabric for the borders - at a great price.  www.out-of-hand.com

The quilting is custom, stitching around the applique and then adding some texture in each individual block and borders.  Because of the thread match you can't see much of the design - hopefully some of the texture.  I can't say enough about how adorable this piece is and the workmanship is impeccable.

Jennifer's First Quilt - Wonderful

Jennifer with a bit of help from her friend Julie made this awesome T-Shirt quilt as a gift for her daughter.  Jennifer used a soft minkie for the backing - black (the photo shows grey but it really is black).  Can you believe this was Jennifer's very first quilt.  Great job, you're a natural!

Freehand double swirl quilting, Mirage variegated thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting was used.

Christmas Table Topper by Susan

Susan decided she wanted a new topper for her Christmas table this year.  Having an abundance of Christmas fabrics in her stash, a scrappy quilt was in order. Susan almost always chooses the most fun backings for her quilts and this one is perfect.

Freehand snowflake, holy leaves, etc. quilting.  Susan chose a taupe colored polyester thread that added to the elegance of this beauty.

I think these may be the 3rd and 4th Grinch quilts Shelly has made for her family.  I was hoping to make one thisyear but it will not happen, but I sure think they're sooooo cute.

Great job Shelly!  Freehand Christmas quilting design on both using a red Tutti variegated thread on one and a green variegated thread on the second.and Hobbs 80/20 batting.  Shelly made them extra cozy by using minkie for the backs of both.

Sixes & Tens by girlfriend Suzanne

Girlfriend Suzanne helps out with the piecing of quilts for this wonderful organization - Victoria Quilts.  We make and deliver quilts to people who are struggling with a diagnosis of cancer.  There is absolutely no cost to the recipient or the person requesting the quilt.  These quilts are the perfect size to be taken to treatment appointments or just to cuddle up under.

This is a very popular pattern we use called "Sixes and Tens" and sews up very quickly and turns out so lovely.  Thank you Suzanne for your help - great job!

I always have kits here at the studio for anyone who would like to make one of these quilts to be donated - the patterns are very easy and sew up quickly.  Just give me a call or send me a message and we can arrange a time to get together.

This was my first effort at an allover freehand feather meander, Tutti 100% cotton thread by Wonderfil and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Gorgeous - Kaffe Fassett Quilt by Elizabeth

Wow - how about these amazing florals from a Kaffe Fassett collection.  Elizabeth loves Kaffe's bright and colorful fabrics and has made a number of quilts using his gorgeous fabrics. I think she does an awesome job coordinating them, don't you?

I loved doing the quilting on this beauty because I got to see all these fabrics up close and if you are into flowers (did I mention Elizabeth definitely is) - you will absolutely love love love his beautiful fabrics.  I was amazed at the vibrant prints and colors - what a great job the mill did when printing these.

Because the fabrics are very busy a freehand allover soft floral design was in order to just give this beauty texture.  Hobbs 80/20 batting and Silco multicolored variegated thread by Wonderfil was used.

Illusions by Jen - Missouri Star Quilt Company

I saw this pattern on youtube and just had to put it together.  Jen at Missouri Star Quilt Company makes these patterns look so easy and guess what?   - They Are!  I used 8 different fabrics for the blocks on this one but I really think anything would look good - hope you'll give it a try.

I've decided that I'm going to share my quilts even if they are not quilted because the number of quilts I have in the queue is getting larger and larger.

Pam made this quilt for herself!

Now I'm around many quilters at any given time and know that the majority of us make quilts for different charities, family members, friends, etc.  Few of us actually make a quilt intended just for ourselves.

Pam was fairly adamant when she picked up this beauty, that she was going to keep it for herself.
The quilting is a freehand leafy swirl quilting design, a beautiful variegated thread - Tutti by Wonderfil and Hobbs 80/20 batting.  We matched the thread so closely that the photos do not really show much of the design.

Nancy N got a great head start on her gifts for Christmas

Nancy N brought a number of quilts to me very early in the year giving me a lot of time to get her Christmas gifts quilted and avoiding that last minute rushing.  I've posted a number of them over the months and these two are also made by Nancy for gifts.  Sooo pretty Nancy and hope you're feeling a whole lot better!

Freehand quilting on both.
