Metro Link by Lisa

This is a wonderful example of some of the modern quilts coming into the studio.  Lisa made this quilt for her 16 year old son and I think she was right on when she chose the pattern.  Lisa said the pattern was called "Metro Links" and I thinks it is absolutely perfect for a young man.

The quilting is freehand spirals, batting is Hobbs 80/20 and the thread a variegated cotton (Tutti) by Wonderfil.

Loved quilting this awesome colorful quilt Michele made for her nephew.  The pattern is one designed by Kat Tucker of "Next Step Quilting" as a block of the month from our local quilt store "Along Came Quilting" a number of years ago.

The quilting is freehand spiky swirls, Hobbs 80/20 batting and a yummy variegated thread - Mirage by Wonderfil.

"Patricia" by Suzanne

This beautiful bed runner was made by my girlfriend and quilting buddy Suzanne.  Now Suzanne is a fairly new quilter and when she told me she was going to piece this pattern I must admit I thought maybe she had bit off more than she can chew.  But this just shows the tenacity of our Suzanne as she did an awesome job.  This will be a special gift for one of her sisters - how wonderful.

The pattern is by a local designer here in Calgary - Wayne Kollinger.  Please have a peek at his blog - he does some gorgeous stuff.  http://waynekollingersquiltblog.blogspot.ca/

The quilting on this bed runner is stitch in the ditch around the ribbons and a small fill in the background.  I used a fairly small freehand funky heart, leaf and swirl quilting design.  The batting was Hobbs 80/20 and the thread was Invisifil 100w by Wonderfil.

Priceless Gift by Nazlin

I'm always touched when I receive a photo quilt to do quilting on.  The hours and hours of work that go into these quilts is absolutely amazing and I can feel the love in each block, each stitch and each photo.  This quilt is a gift from Nazlin to her sister-in-law on a very special birthday and a surprise at that.  I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when Nazlin's sister-in-law opened this very personal gift - I'm sure there were a few tears shed.

The quilting is a simple allover swirl going around the photos, the thread was a beautiful variegated - Mirage by Wonderfil to compliment the gorgeous batiks Nazlin used.

This beauty is headed for the Netherlands

My dear customer and guild member Sheila has the biggest heart ever.  She makes a huge amount of quilts each year with a very large number of them going to local charities.  Hats off to you Sheila you are awesome!

This simply but very stunning quilt, if I understand it is heading to the Netherlands as a gift for someone special - a friend I believe. The quilting is freehand double swirls, and the thread is 100% variegated cotton by Wonderfil.

Amy Butler quilt by Karen

I have to say I love my work here in the studio.  I get to see such wonderful quilts and all the amazing fabric that is coming out - what more could a person ask for.  Karen did mention that this is a line from Amy Butler with the back being an oh so cozy minkie fabric.

Karen asked for a swirly flower quilting design on this colorful quilt and was very pleased when she saw I came up with exactly what she had envisioned.  The quilting is freehand, batting is Hobbs 80/20 and the thread is a lovely variegated 100% cotton - Tutti by Wonderfil.

"Monkey Shines" by Barb

This is the second "Monkey Shines" I've quilted for Barb.  By the time I finished this adorable quilt I have a permanent smile on my face.  These characters are so much fun.  Barb mentioned the design is from "Oregon Patchworks".  I've attached the link in case anyone else would like to make this fun quilt.   http://www.oregonpatchworks.com/ .  Lucky little nephew who will be getting this sweet sweet precious gift.

The quilting is just freehand swirls around the embroidery designs - easy peasy!

Gift for Baby Payton

This quilt was made by Joanna for her BFF's first baby. Payton arrived just a few weeks ago to Jennifer (another customer) and her husband here in Calgary.  Joanna had seen one of my quilts where I had written words throughout it and asked if I would write Payton's name on the quilt she made.

Freehand daisies, swirls and Payton's name here and there as requested.  Hobbs 80/20 batting and a lovely variegated pastel thread Mirage by Wonderfil.

Maxine's Beautiful Embroidered Quilt - Custom Quilting with a bit of a twist.

My girlfriend Max has surely thought I'd forgotten about her quilts hanging here in the studio.  This one just jumped off the hook the other day and said "quilt me already"!

Max does such lovely work and I'm in awe of all she acccomblishes.  Keep up the amazing work Max and sorry some of these are taking longer than I had hoped.

The quilting is custom quilting with no stitching in the ditches.   Max gave me the green lite to experiment on her quilts and I found that if I could forgo the ditching I could save a number of hours - of course lessening the cost.  This however can not and should not be done on all quilts requesting custom quilting..

Hobbs 80/20 batting and Invisifil thread by Wonderfil in the embroidered blocks, and a yummy variegated green in the borders and sashing - Mirage by Wonderfil.

Snowman Family Reunion by Kerry

This quilt definitely fits in with the day - if you haven't looked outside this morning yet, do so and you'll know what I mean.

Kerry does such wonderful applique quilts and this one is no exception.  "Snowman Family Reunion" also may give you an idea of how cool freehand quilting can look on an applique quilt.  Not everyone is prepared to put out the coin for custom quilting.  Freehand swirls with snowflakes, silver poly thread and Warm/Natural batting.
