Scrappy Star

I did find a bit of time last week to quilt one of my own quilts.  As most of my friends and customers know, I love playing with my scraps and coming up with some interesting scrappy quilts. Some I use patterns and some I just fly by the seat of my pants.  Unfortunately I'm not very imaginitive when it comes to naming them and I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of patterns called Scrappy Stars.

I usually use the Square'n Square quilting technique by Jodi Barrows as it is definitely one of my favorites and has been for many years and this quilt was no exception.

For the quilting I did a pantograph called "Harvest Winds" by Patricia Ritter. Warm and Natural 50/50 batting and a lovely variegated thread Tutti by Wonderfil.

Garden Wedding Ring

This beautiful Garden Wedding Ring quilt was made by new customer Bobbi over a span of a number of years.  We all have a few quilts that seem to go on forever - I know I do. I can't imagine the number of hours put into piecing this quilt - the applique alone!  Gorgeous, gorgeous quilt - and if I remember correctly she's keeping this one for herself.

The quilting is a combination of freehand leaf meander in the center and a lite custom swirl meander around the applique in the borders as per the customers choice.  The batting is Hobbs blend and the thread was a rayon blend by Ackerman with Invisifil by Wonderfil in the bobbin.

Love and Prayers - Jane's Quilt

This lovely quilt was made by my dear friend Jane. Jane did not have anyone in mind when she started this quilt but it wasn't long before she received some troubling news that a member of her family had just started a battle with cancer.  This quilt will be sent off as a comfort quilt to Jane's sister-in-law.  I'm sure she will feel the love in this quilt and know that there are many people sending her their prayers and best wishes.

Lovely Pastel Quilts - Freehand Quilting

These two lovely pastel quilts were made by customers Mary and Elizabeth.  Both are quilted using an allover freehand design.  The first is swirls/bubbles and the second swirls/stars.

A lot of Spiky Stuff going on lately!

This is another lovely customer quilt by Catherine.  This quilt will be a gift for one of Catherine's son's so I thought the freehand allover spiky swirls would add to the masculine feel of this quilt.

Pretty Panda Quilt - Spiky Swirl Freehand

This quilt was made by a new customer Elaine for one of her (I think she said 13 grandchildren).  Love the fabric choice and her great use of colors.  This was quilted using a freehand meander (spiky swirls), a 100% polyester batting and Mirage variegated thread by Wonderfil.

Perfect for Mother's Day - Glenna's Quilt for Her Mom

This lovely quilt is a customer quilt made for Glenna's mother.  Mom chose the fabrics and Glenna put them all together - how wonderful!  When I saw this quilt it made me think of my Mom who passed away in 2006.  Mom would have lovely this quilt, as she love love loved flowers of all sorts.

Glenna asked for the center to be outlined and a stipple design to surround the floral vase, the rest of the quilt was freehand leaf/swirl meandering.  I used an extra layer of batting to define the vase making somewhat a trupunto look.  Legacy 70/30 Eco batting was used, as well as a variegated thread - Mirage by Wonderfil.
