Elaine's Jelly Roll Quilt

I've noticed a number of these Jelly Roll quilts coming in lately.  Hats off to the fabric designers and the companies putting these gorgeous fabrics together - making it a joy to put a beautiful quilt like Elaine's together without agonizing too much over fabric choices.

The quilting is freehand leaves/swirls, etc.  The batting used is Legacy 70/30 recycled and the thread a yummy 100% cotton variegated - Tutti by Wonderfil.

Elegant Christmas quilt by JoAnn

This elegant quilt came from a friend and guild member JoAnn.  The fabric is absolutely scrumptious and the metalics make it oh so classy. JoAnn made this quilt for her daughter and husband who live just outside of Calgary.

I did an allover freehand swirl with snowflakes using a gorgeous variegated thread (Mirage) by Wonderfil.

Lisa & Mom's Special Gift

Some of you may remember mid year a customer/friend Lisa brought me 4 quilts her and her mother pieced while visiting together on Lisa's Christmas visit with her Mom down east.  Lisa and her Mom graciously made these quilts to be given to someone special who would enjoy them and was maybe down on some hard luck.

This is the 4th and last quilt (I never did say I was fast).  I had fun testing out a new freehand design I'm calling "double swirls" - still needs some work but I think I'm liking it.

These quilts will be going to Brenda's House here in Calgary (a transitional home for families getting back on their feet).  Bless you ladies - I'm sure they will greatly appreciated.

Jennifer's Nine Patch

Jennifer and her girlfriend Joanna made very similar quilts. Understandably so as Jennifer was the teacher in this case and introduced Joanna to the art of quilting - they both did a great job.  I am so pleased that both these awesome young ladies have taken up this art and I think by their response when seeing their quilts they are on to making many many more.

Jennifer used a lovely dark blue fabric for her back which showed the quilting very well - freehand swirls and stars. I used Hobbs 80/20 batting and a yummy blue to yellow variegated cotton thread - Tutti by Wonderfil

New quilter Joanna - Nine Patch

Joanna lives and works in Fort Mac.  She is new to quilting and with the help of her girlfriend Jennifer made this awesome nine patch quilt.  Great job Joanna - keep up the good work, you're a natural!

Unfortunately Joanne won't get to see this beauty in person until sometimes in the new year when she comes back to Calgary to see her family.  No worry Joanna the quilts love to hang out here in the studio with me until they're ready to go home.

The quilting is freehand soft swirls, Hobbs 80/20 batting and variegated 100% Egyptian cotton thread (Tutti) by Wonderfil.

"Grinch" by Jackie - So much fun!

This is the second of 3 Grinch Christmas quilts I was asked to quilt this year. Jackie the sister of my dear friend Jane made this awesome quilt with the help of her sister. What a great job they both did.  Although Jackie lives a fair bit away from Jane they still manage to get together to quilt - how wonderful.   My understanding is this quilt is a Christmas gift for a very special someone. Lucky lucky lucky!

The quilting was freehand, Hobbs batting and a yummy variegated thread Tutti by Wonderfil.

"Meow" - Kitty by Elizabeth

This adorable childrens quilt with the cutest kitty motif was made by Elizabeth for her grandson.  Elizabeth always gives me free reign to quilt most of her quilts however I see fit.  The fabric was so cute so I decided to do swirls with the word "meow" thrown in here and there.  Kept me from getting bored and I think it added a bit of interest.

Freehand quilting, Hobbs 80/20 batting and white cotton thread.
